What you may be hearing for the first time is that all mystery teachings: Mysticism, Magic, Hermetics, and Alchemy come together in one magnificent yet complicated model.
The challenge for most of us, is that minus a truly educated teacher, it’s nearly impossible to decipher and make sense of the wisdom contained within Qabalistic teaching.
Since the true mystery schools are gone (minus the faux attempts), for most the only place left to go for Qabalah are the Jewish centers.
And here’s where it gets confusing and even more complicated.
There are 4 distinct types of Qabalah:
- The Dogmatic: This includes the Torah (the book of the Law of Moses), and the Pentateuch which are from the first 5 books of the Bible.
- The Practical: Which deals with Magic, Talismans, Amulets, Angels, and Demons.
Talismans: Personalized active magical power.
Amulets: Non-personalized defensive magical power that can work for anyone. - The Literal: This deals with all types of basic Numerology, including Gematria, and Notarikon.
a. Gematria is the science of associating numbers to letters of the alphabet with the understanding that all numerical equivalent words have a common frequency or vibration.b. Notarikon is the creation of words (tones/vibrations), by using each of its initial or final letters of chosen words to stand for or create another. To form a sentence, acronym, or idea out of the words. Much of the mystery teachings have been hidden in this way from all who were not initiated.
- The Unwritten: This final type incorporates both the practical and the literal; and focuses on The Tree of Life.
I’m sure you’re beginning to see how deep and complicated this teaching is.
Which of the four types do you choose?
Well, if you choose to experience magic; and truly “create willful change in the fabric of your universe” then you must choose type four. The Unwritten.
Unfortunately, most Jewish teachings focus primarily on the dogmatic which also includes The Sepher Yetzirah and the Zohar.
While there’s value in these teachings, particularly in Jewish religious pursuits, they’re not focused primarily on magic.
